Craft Room Fun

Craft Room Fun

Our spare room was a disaster, the dump room of the house for so long! I was motivated a few months ago to turn it into my craft/ sewing room.  I didn’t want it to be a boring room though, I wanted something fun and inspiring. This is what I came up with…

Here is the disaster before I started…

Spare Room 2

Just a junk collecting room…

The original wall color I didn’t mind and figured I could work this into the fun theme that I wanted.  The color is Ace’s D24-4 Chinos that I color matched in Benjamin Moore’s Regal Select eggshell finish.

My accent color is CC-670 Gray Wisp from Benjamin Moore.  This color compliments the Chinos green and added a fun punch of color.   I painted this color on the large wall in the spare room, I knew this is where I was going to put the couch and was the first wall you see when you walk into the room.

I cut out a hexagon out of cardboard.  I found the easiest way was printing one from the internet and transferring it on to cardboard.

Using Frog Tape Delicate, I started tracing the hexagon over and over again.

Spare Room 10

Frog tape is the only tape I will ever use for projects like this.  For this entire wall, I  had to go back and do ONE touch up, that was it!!  Just make sure you press down the edges of the tape really well.  You can pick up Frog Tape Delicate from any Hardware or Paint store in your area for starting at $8.99/roll

Spare Room 4

This part of my project took the longest.  I was taping for a total of 3-4 hours for sure!  But you can start to see the effect it’s going to have.

After the entire wall is taped, making the wall look like a honey comb, paint on the Chinos green right over top!  Depending on the quality of paint you go with, if you put it on thick enough, you may be able to get away with one coat.  I was using Benjamin Moore of course so I was able to get away with 2 coats of cutting in and then one thick coat of rolling.

Now for the fun part!  Taking off all the tape!  You want to start this process when the paint is still wet,  the tape actually gives a nicer line if you take it off while it is wet.  This was another time consuming aspect of this project, but with every piece I took off, I was more and more excited.

In this picture you can really see how well Frog tape really works.  NO BLEED TAPE!  You couldn’t ask for something more magnificent!

Spare Room 8

Under the couch I have some great storage bins for a lot of my fabrics.

I added a few book shelves to organize my clutter.

Spare Room 9

This is now my favorite room in the house!

I did this project last spring and am just posting now.  Currently this room is under construction again!  We are switching rooms, this will soon be our master bedroom.  Check back to see what we do in it!

OMgosh – not sure I could be so brave as to take on this – that is A LOT of taping. It came out fantastic though. I had to laugh at your last statement – we have switched rooms so many time in our house it is really challenging for me to even get back into the room redo’s – I have take the last year off from all of it. 🙂

But – I really love that wall.

It was definitely a lot of work! Very time consuming, but a lot of fun seeing the results so fast. It adds such a presence in the room. I’m sad to see it go, but the chance to do something different and more extravagant is very exciting for me!
